Erica Hoelscher was born and raised in Marshalltown, Iowa, where her father was an actor and singer in the community theatre. She attended Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa, home of the Des Moines Metro Opera with whom Erica was employed during summer months. Erica graduated Magda Cum Laude from Simpson College in 1989 with a B.A. in theatre, and then attended Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois.
Erica studied at Northwestern University under Professors Virgil Johnson and Samuel Ball. She completed her M.F.A in stage design in 1993, while working in various capacities in Chicago area theatres. She accepted a faculty position at Lehigh University in 1995.
Erica has designed costumes for the Colleague's Theatre Company, NYC, Shadowland Theatre, Ellenville, NY, Media Theatre, Media, PA, Shakespeare in Clark Park, Plays and Players Theatre, the Idiopathic Ridiculopathy Consortium, Arden Theatre Company, the Red Square Theater Company, Philadelphia, and the Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival, Center Valley, PA. She has exhibited at Jasper Community Arts in Jasper, Indiana, and at the Lehigh University Art Gallery. She is a member of the Costume Society of America and presents regularly at the annual symposium.
Erica has designed costumes, (and sometimes scenery,) for over ninety Lehigh University productions since 1995. Notable projects include set and costumes for Wolf Play, Antigonik, and The Salonniéres, as well as costumes for An Actor’s Nightmare and Blithe Spirit.
Erica resides in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.
